Ictus Zone: Nadar ensemble - "dubbelganger"
Bozar/Studio

Ictus presents the adventurous Ictus Zone, featuring in this concert the Nadar Ensemble. The concert series (watchword: constructive provocation) presents a new generation of musicians and ensembles active in contemporary music. Under the heading Dubbelganger, the Nadar Ensemble will perform works by the composers Michael Beil and Peter Ablinger, with inspiration from kindred spirits Hanna Schygulla, Billie Holiday, and Bertolt Brecht.

Ictus zone 1

ICTUS ZONE is putting itself out there as a new series of concerts that always stray from the beaten track. Over six Thursday evenings between November and April Ictus features in the action without actually being on stage for every concert.

In this first series Ictus absorbs provocation and takes its inspiration from the sorts of things that occupy a new generation of musicians and groups. The results of this input are then thrown together, maybe injected with a few recent Ictus wors and then filtered.

Constructive provocation is the phrase used to describe this series, which endeavours to offer the audience new perspectives, trends and relationships.

Klee & Colours

Nadar @ Donaueschinger Musiktage

October 20th - 11h00

Donaueschinger Musiktage
Donauehallen, Bartok Saal

'Our writing instruments also influence our thoughts', Friedrich Nietzsche noted long before our media age. If we speak of new ensemble constitutions, we cannot merely address questions of instrumentation; the choice of instruments only provides the surface of a new sonic image. A far more central concern is what the carriers of action are in the artistic events taking place, as well as the forms of transport and transformation in the individual media. Who determines what happens: humans or machines? How interactive and communicative is the relationship between these two actors within the new ensemble constellations? The concert featuring the Belgian ensemble Nadar will provide an unusual perspective on the growing hybridisation of all these connections. Thus Yoav Pasovsky questions the acoustic exclusivity of the musician by using electrodynamic exciters to transmit digital signals through the bodies of the instruments, which are thus converted into interfaces; Johannes Kreidler and Stefan Prins integrate video, Internet and computer games, as well as acoustic and electronic sounds, into their multi-media setup, where technology is not necessarily intended as an antithesis to the corporeal. They integrate both self-produced material and elements taken from the YouTube archives and computer games. It is not only the medial textures of the individual works that merge, then, but also the pieces themselves: the generation 'Kill' on its way to desperation?

"Belgian Wave" at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse 2012

The Belgians were all over Darmstadt this year

“The Belgians are all over Darmstadt this year” wist een Poolse journaliste te vertellen bij aankomst in het ietwat vreemde Duitse stadje, even buiten Frankfurt.

PREMIERE

46. Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt 2012
Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt (IMD)
Frankfurt LAB, Schmidtstraße 12, 60326 Frankfurt

Think of a body in stand-by, a short-circuited thought, a human brain processing at a frequency of 5 GHz… In PARK, six computers form a communication network that provides six performers with real-time instructions. PARK confronts the human body with a digital logic. It plays with the border of the human's presence and absence in technology and embodies a puzzle in which they outline each other. With playful precision PARK investigates strategies of embracing, resisting, adapting, disrupting or short-circuiting these technical surroundings. Who infiltrates what, and what infiltrates whom? PARK inhabits a peculiar network, which sputters in a much outmoded way. PARK is a first collaboration between Shila Anaraki and Stefan Prins. Together they depart from Infiltrationen, a composition of Stefan Prins for 4 electric guitars and a live-electronics performer. Central to this composition is the notion of technology infiltrating the conditio humana on several levels. Shila Anaraki is a performer and choreographer. An important part of her work is dedicated to collaborations within the contemporary music field. In these liaisons, Shila Anaraki looks for hybrid concepts from which the work can arise.

Mangalam! @ Saint-Petersburg

Tuesday May 29th - 19h30

From 26-31 May the Saint-Petersburg Contemporary Music Center “reMusik.org” will host the 6th annual International New Music Festival “The Time of Music: Fin de siècle” in Saint-Petersburg. Events will take place at ERARTA, the Museum and Galleries of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Music in the Sheremetev Palace.
The program of May 29 will be dedicated to contemporary Belgian music in ERARTA. This event will be a great first opportunity for the St. Petersburg public to discover new Belgian music in one of the most exciting venues of the city.
The program for the concert will be comprised of Belgian and Dutch compositions, such as by Henri Pousseur who sought the synthesis of sound and image and wrote the famous opera Votre Faust, with libretto by Michel Butor. The program also includes the work of Ton de Leeuw, famous for his experiments with microtonality, and Martijn Padding for flute and piano, which will be undoubtedly interesting for the Russian listener, who has yet to discover this movement in modern music. Other works will include the composers Haofu Zhang, Michel Lysight, Karel Goeyvaerts, Sebastian Bradt, Michel Lysight and Jean-Luc Fafchamps.
The concert will be performed by the Belgian trio “Mangalam”: Anne Davids (flute), Tomonori Takeda (clarinet), and Charlote Otte (piano), coming to Russia for the first time. Concert entry will be open free of charge by “reMusik.org” for the convenience of the public. The trio features a group of musicians striving to make people discover contemporary music in a new and different way. The name of the ensemble is a word in Sanskrit that says much about the aesthetic style of the musicians: an interest in West and East, and the exoticism of diversity.

Zwerm @ Handelsbeurs (Gent)

Donderdag 9 februari - 20h15

International competition for young composers/sound artists

New Forum Jeune Creation
International competition for young composers/sound artists
March 12th, 2012 – March 11th, 2014
Application Deadline for composers/sound artists: January 31st, 2012

Organized by :
Grame, national centre for musical creation (Lyon)
ensemble mosaik (Berlin)
Champ d’Action (Antwerp)
Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain (Lyon)

WORKSHOPS OPEN TO APPLICATION

TOPIC

“One might say that the network tends to transform every boundary into a threshold. Networks are in this sense essentially elusive, ephemeral, perpetually in flight. Networks can thus at one moment appear to be universal and at another vanish into thin air.”
Antonio Negri, Multitude

CONDITIONS

Grame, ensemble mosaik, Champ d’Action and Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain launch the new  forum - jeune  création, an international competition for young composers/sound artists that will be held in several European cities, from March 12th, 2012 to March 11th, 2014.

We invite composers to think out of the box, to start a creational process together with three very different ensembles with different backgrounds and an international reputation. Developing musical ideas supported by an international network under ideal conditions is the goal of this competition.

We invite young artists to hand in their ideas, their artistic approaches to “networks”. An international jury preselects 12 candidates who are invited to Biennale Musiques en Scène in Lyon to discuss their drafts of a project with the jury. Grame gets associated with Gmem (national center form musical creation in Marseille) to share these residencies in France. The six selected laureates have then the chance to work in residencies in Lyon, Marseille and Antwerp and to develop together with the ensembles in Lyon, Antwerp and Berlin their projects. The results, six compositions or multimedia works (including visual arts or mixed media installation) - commissioned by new  forum - jeune  création - will then be presented in Berlin, Antwerp or Lyon. One ensemble collaborates with two laureates.

JURY

4 Chairmen:
Enno Poppe, ensemble mosaik
