Aton'&Armide
(A'&A) was founded in Belgium in 2010 as a collective for contemporary
classical music by Benjamin Glorieux (cello, artistic director) and Sara
Picavet (piano).
A'&A
has a variable formation with at least one or both of the founders, depending
on the programs, and combining contemporary music -canon, fellow composers, own
music- or music from other periods or styles. Every project start with a quest
for links between stories, texts or personalities.
A’&A
is active in the world of musical theatre. In 2013-14 they played music by
Dominique Pauwels for 'Trauerzeit' by Johan Leysen and since 2015 they've been
touring extensively with Fabrice Murgia's 'Children of Nowhere' (Théâtre
National/LOD), which was premiered in Santiago de Chili.

is regularly invited by national and international concert halls and festivals
(Bozar, Flagey, Opera de Lille, Ars Musica, Concerts de Midi Liège, What's
Next, Impulsions, Festival de Wallonie, Musica Antiqua Bruges). RTBF made
several live recordings of their concerts, and both RTBF and Klara invited
them for interviews. In 2011 they were selected for Klara's 2011 and they
played during Klara Festival 2014 at Club Midi a short program including music
by Daan Janssens. In 2016 they performed during Musica Antiqua Bruges, a
renowned festival for old music, combining music by 16th and 17th-century
composers with new music. This concert made it into the evening news on VRT.
Also in 2016, Benjamin performed Ferneyhough's well-known 'Time and Motion
Study II' for cello, voice, electronics and assistants with equipment of the
1970's, thus recreating the complexity of the initial compositional endeavour.
They
played premieres of pieces by Daan Janssens, Dominique Bodson, Laurent
Pigeolet, Thomas Smetryns, Dominique Pauwels, Stephane Orlando, Jean-Marie
Rens, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Guillaume Auvray. They've worked in 2016 and 201§
with hoboist and composer Heinz Holliger on his magnum opus ‘Romancendres’.
They work regularly with Centre Henri Pousseur.
During
the summer of 2016 they recorded their first CD 'En blanc et noir' for
Penguin/Antarctica with music by Claude Debussy, Daan Janssens and Jean-Luc
Fafchamps. Debussy's music is performed on his own piano and with gut-strings
on cello, Fafchamps' 'Trois chants pour mieux voir' is written for cello and
prepared piano and Janssens piece '(...nada)' combines cello and piano with
electronics. In this way the project 'En blanc et noir' combines all efforts
and passions of 5 years of musical pleasure.

A’&A heeft vandaag een variable bezetting -met minstens één van beide of allebei de oprichters- alnaargelang de uitgevoerde programma’s, van eigen muziek tot muziek van bevriende componisten, al dan niet gelinkt aan werk uit de canon van de muziekliteratuur.
Hun programma’s vertrekken van een zoektocht naar verbanden tussen verhalen, composities, teksten of persoonlijheden.
A’&A werkt vaak mee aan muziektheater-producties. In 2013-‘14 spelen ze Trauerzeit van Johan Leysen, in de bezetting van cello-kwartet, in Luxemburg en Parijs en 2015 brengt een productie met LOD, beide met muziek van Dominique Pauwels.
A’&A wordt regelmatig uitgenodigd door nationale en internationale concertzalen en festivals (Bozar, Flagey, Opéra de Lille, Ars Musica, What’s Next, Impulsions, Festival de Wallonie) en de RTBF maakte meerdere live-opnames van hun concerten en nodigde hen uit voor interviews. In 2011 werden ze geselecteerd voor de Klara’s 2011, en ze speelden tijdens Klarafestival 2014 in het programma Club Midi live werk van oa Daan Janssens.
Creaties van Daan Janssens, Dominique Bodson, Laurent Pigeolet, Thomas Smetryns, Dominique Pauwels, Stephane Orlando, Jean-Marie Rens en Jean-Luc Fafchamps reflecteren hun nieuwsgierigheid naar samenwerkingen met levende componisten, net als een ontmoeting, in februari 2013, met Heinz Holliger.
A’&A wordt gesteund door Cohort vzw/asbl, het management-platform opgericht in de schoot van Ictus.

Aton’&Armide
(A’&A), collectif de musique contemporaine a été créé en 2010 par Sara
Picavet et Benjamin Glorieux (directeur artistique). Ensemble à géométrie
variable, A’&A acceuille au sein de son noyau de base, d’autres musiciens,
en fonction des œuvres proposées.A’&A propose des spectacles hybrides, parfois mélangeant textes et musiques.
Généralement, les programmes de l’ensemble vont être guidés par un leitmotif ou une thématique récurrente, permettant de relier les œuvres entre elles. Certains programmes embrassent des musiques de périodes musicales (romantisme) ou de styles différentes (jazz ou pop).
A’&A est actif dans le théâtre musical.
Depuis 2013, ils interprètent la musique composée pour Trauerzeit de Johan Leysen (Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord à Paris). Ils sont également invités par la compagnie LOD, pour la production Children of Nowhere qui sera créée à Santiago de Chili en 2015 avec le compositeur Dominique Pauwels.
A'&A a été invité par le festival Ars Musica à plusieurs reprises et s’est produit dans différentes salles et festivals internationaux en Belgique et à l'étranger (Bozar, Flagey, Opéra de Lille). Il a été enregistré à plusieurs reprises par Musiq3 et Klara, lors de concerts ou pour des interviews.
A’&A se veut actif dans la création musicale contemporaine. Il joue et commande des œuvres aux compositeurs d’aujourd’hui, comme Dominique Bodson (2010), Laurent Pigeolet (2011), Daan Janssens (2011, 2012, 2015), Thomas Smetryns (2011, 2013), Jean-Luc Fafchamps (2013), Dominique Pauwels (2013, 2015). Ils ont également rencontré Heinz Holliger, en février 2013, et sont en contact avec plusieurs compositeurs belges et étrangers pour l’interprétation de leurs œuvres (John Zorn, Kaija Saariaho).
A'&A est soutenu dans ses démarches par l’ensemble Ictus et la plateforme Cohort-Alternative Music Managment.
